COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR
STATE AND FEDERAL ELECTED OFFICIALS
As elected officials formulate their positions on issues of importance to us, they need to hear from straight and gay constituents who support equal protection for LGBT people. A Lexington Senator told us during the hearings, "The way to change my mind is for me to hear from my constituents." Your input can help officials learn more about our issues and understand how proposed legislation will impact 6-10% of their constituents. And it is your right to communicate early and often on matters that are important to you.
ADOPT A PARKWAY SIGN VANDALIZED AGAIN!
The adopt a parkway sign for the Gay and Lesbian Community at Park and Hayne has been vandalized once again. I've reported it, but please talk up this issue with your straight and gay friends, write a letter to the editor to the Aiken Standard at http://www.aikenstandard.com/news/opinion.php
and make sure you are as 'out' as you can be and feel comfortable. It's very important that the community know that we are here and that this kind of hatred is unwarranted.
Call the City of Aiken Department of Public Safety at 803-642-7620
and request that they do something to stop this hate crime from continuing.
